From a posting on "Mobile Podcasting" by Stan Sorensen, senior director for product management and marketing at Melodeo, I learned that a new wireless podcast-related company, FatCalico, is under wraps.
The company is in stealth mode, that it proclaims at the top of its one-page Web site. Here's all they say they're doing:
"We're working at the intersection of wireless and podcasting.
"We believe in the value of premium content. We believe that while a premium brand is an important part of what makes content premium, it's not the only part.
"Quality can make content premium. We have extensive experience in both working with the most premium of media brands, and building systems that can help identify quality content.
"We believe that observing behavior generates more valuable data than asking opinions.
"Fat Calico was founded by the team that built Yahoo!'s Entertainment, Gaming and Chat products."

Stan's article doesn't discuss FatCalico but, rather, how quiet Melodeo's competitors have been during the past few months. He writes:
"I haven't heard a thing out of them in months. Our carrier partners haven't heard anything from them in months.
"It's discouraging -- I'm a guy who loves having competitors.
"The question that came up today from a couple folks here was whether the perceived absence of our competitors means the market just isn't ready for mobilcasting.
"I can't believe that's the case -- all of our market data and feedback says the opposite."
Wireless podcast interest?
Stan's business is mobile podcasting and he's much more plugged into the business than I, but I haven't heard much either.
I, too, believe there's a demand for podcasts on cellular phones, although the cellular operators aren't spending much time on it. The most excitement in wireless multimedia is about games, music, television/videos and picture messaging.
Wireless podcasting has to be developed with much more customer education and marketing. Without it, the vast majority of consumers will not know it even exists.
