Yahoo, Motorola team up for podcasts to cellular phones

I should have posted this item when I first saw it on Melodeo’s Mobilcast “Mobile Podcasting” weblog: Yahoo and Motorola are developing podcast applications that enable cellular subscribers to download podcasts over the air as well as transfer podcast files from a computer to a phone via the “Yahoo Music Engine,” according to the press release.

The podcast feature was demonstrated during the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona where a Motorola RAZR V3x phone was used for the podcasting application. Podcasts are one of a variety of “Yahoo Ready for Motorola” applications under development for Motorola phones, including Yahoo e-mail, instant messaging, calendars and address books.

Stan Sorensen, senior director for product management and marketing for Melodeo, writes in the weblog about the Yahoo/Motorola podcast venture, “I love this. Any time a couple [of] big players enter your space it validates the market.” (Melodeo offers the Mobilcast podcast platform.)
