My second audio file, about CTIA Action Teams, available on WIC Weblog

I have just posted my second audio broadcast -- about goals and activities of Action Teams of the CTIA Wireless Internet Caucus (WIC) -- on the "WIC Weblog."

As I mentioned in my first broadcast, the WIC is the main wireless data organization within the CTIA.  The WIC Action Teams examine wireless data issues of nationwide importance and determine whether to present recommendations to the wireless industry for implementation.

There are four Teams:  Enterprise, Metrics, Messaging and Mobile Content.  They deal with such issues as SMS and MMS interoperability, classifying wireless content for minors and adults, developing Common Short Codes, developing better wireless data statistics and educating corporations about the value of implementing wireless data solutions.

These are ongoing issues and the implementation of Team recommendations affect all cellular users.  If you're in the wireless industry it's a very good idea to keep an eye (or ear) on what the Teams are doing.

"Pocketcasting" publishes list of wireless podcasting articles, companies

"Pocketcasting" has published a modest list of articles about and companies that are involved in wireless podcasting.

I'd certainly add two wireless podcasting companies:  Pod2Mob and Odeo, although I haven't heard much from Pod2Mob.  Melodeo (that's on Pocketcasting's list) and Odeo have been generating much more buzz.

Melodeo also has a very good weblog about podcasting and related items that is well worth reading.

Josh Bancroft discusses mobile podcasting at Podcast Academy

John Bancroft, who works at Intel, is a podcaster and self-proclaimed "technology evangelist," discusses the "how-tos" of mobile podcasting from wireless and portable devices in this 35-minute podcast (see below).

Russell Holliman uses Treo to record, post podcasts

Russell Holliman uses his Treo to record podcasts, that are listed on one of his weblogs.  (Check the archives on the bottom left for all his podcasts.) 

He started with a palmOne Treo 600, but he upgraded to a 650, typically with a headset.

Here's what he wrote on October 21, 2004:

"Well, it may not sound so good... yet.  But it can be done.  Podcasting - from a Treo 600 cell phone. The entire cast was recorded using a Treo (bumper music and all) and then FTP'd to a server where it was automatically encoded and distributed. The quality is not great, but that will come with practice.

"Stay tuned for information on the process... what works and what doesn't.  And also for more information, tips, and tricks to help you get the most from your Treo 600."

I've been listening to his podcasts -- that include techie and non-techie information -- for a while and should have posted this much sooner.  Better late than never.

Eric Rice, a well known podcaster, has begun to podcast shorter versions specifically for cellular phones (see below).

The shows include podcasts from the Nine Nice Nails concert, Microsoft's Digital Homes Exhibit, the Podcast Expo and the Sony PSP (that also includes a three-part video).

Eric's a big fan of Melodeo and he discusses it in an interview in "Marketing Shift."
